There are a lot of different opportunities for people in this industry.” “You get the opportunity to brighten someone’s day and give them what they need. But, it all depends on what you want to do.” “I went in originally to just be an esthetician and then I went in later for nails, but you can go in for straight cosmetology and you can do everything at once. “It all depends on the situation,” she added. It definitely worked with the schedule I have. It is definitely very flexible for my schedule I’m a mother. “I feel like they did a great job and I learned a lot. “Everything is really good, the instructors do a great job of helping us out along the way,” she said. Sartin said she really liked the instructors at the JVS. “It was something I wanted to add to the industry I’m already in.”

“So, within the last couple of years, I’ve been asked if I do nails…so I figured that was a good thing to add to being an esthetician,” she continued. I also got certified for that through the JVS. “I’ve been a bail bonds agent for a couple of years, I still do it on the side,” she added. “I graduated in May 2020 the nail program was four to six months. “If it’s a financial thing, there is usually an opportunity for funding.”īrittany Sartin, who currently works at Charles Scott Salon in Rocky River, said the programs at the JVS were a good experience.

We also have different financial assistance for the classes that are Pell-eligible (grant) and we also get help from Ohio Means Jobs. “We want to make sure we have those options. “I believe there will be a lot of people looking for some training when this all blows over,” he added. “We are really working to ramp up the course offerings to really provide the opportunities for when people want to go out and look to change careers when the COVID is behind us,” he said. Smith said the programs had pretty solid enrollment recently, and the JVS just wants to help fill more of what adult learners need. “Those are on top of our regular programs: cosmetology, manicures program, esthetics program, dental assisting, phlebotomy technician program, precision machine technologies program, a state-tested nurse aide program, and we have a welding and fab program.”

“We are going to use it as a stepping stone to the full collision class we will be adding in the fall,” he added. That will be designed for anyone that might be looking at car restoration as a hobby. “We are going to do a spring-summer offering for auto body repair. “We’re also looking at starting a collision repair class,” he said. Smith said more new opportunities are coming. “We are going to add several new courses, one of which is the bringing back of our auto technology class. “We’re excited about the fall and getting back to some kind of normal,” he said. Smith said the JVS is looking to provide more opportunities for adults in Lorain County. We have classes that range from 90 hours to complete to 600 hours, so it depends on what the student is interested in. “It’s no cost for students to qualify for it. “In the past few years we have had an average of about 30 students a year in that,” he added. “It provides an opportunity for people who are 22 years old and older to earn their high school diploma and a credential for an in-demand job. “We have lots of different classes and one of the things that has been added is our adult diploma program,” he said. Kristian Smith, director of the Adult Career Center at JVS, said the vocational school also has a relatively new program that allows adults to get their high school diploma. The Lorain County JVS offers Adult Career Services programs that allow high school graduates the opportunity to expand their knowledge.
